Study in Canada

Study Permits — your first step into Canada.

Canada attracts students from around the world for one reason: a study permit can launch a long-term life here. Strong institutions, the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), and clear pathways to permanent residence make studying in Canada one of the most reliable starting points for newcomers.

What you need to apply

A Canadian study permit application has a few core ingredients. Each has nuance, and weak documentation is the most common reason for refusals.

  • A Letter of Acceptance (LOA) from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI).
  • A Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL/TAL) where required.
  • Proof of funds — tuition for the first year plus living expenses for the applicant and any accompanying family.
  • A genuine purpose to study — a clear, documented Statement of Purpose tying the program to your career.
  • Ties to your home country and an intent to follow Canadian immigration rules.

Why so many study applications get refused

The biggest refusal reasons we see are weak Statements of Purpose, unclear proof of funds, mismatched program choices, and gaps in study or work history that aren't explained. The cure is preparation, not luck.

How Rapport Immigration helps

  • School and program selection that actually fits your career and PR plan.
  • A focused Statement of Purpose that connects past education, the program, and future career.
  • A clean, well-organised proof-of-funds package — assets, bank statements, sponsors, GIC.
  • Family applications — spouse open work permit and dependent study permits, filed together.
  • Post-graduation planning so a PGWP and PR become realistic, not a lucky outcome.

Frequently asked

Often, yes. Spouses of eligible students can apply for an open work permit, and dependent children may attend Canadian schools as accompanying minors. Eligibility depends on your program level and institution type.

The PGWP is an open work permit issued to graduates of eligible Canadian programs. It lets you work for any employer in Canada and is often the bridge from study to permanent residence.

Most full-time post-secondary students at a DLI can work part-time during studies and full-time during scheduled breaks, subject to current IRCC rules.

Studying in Canada is one of the strongest long-term pathways — but it's not automatic. You'll need a PGWP-eligible program, Canadian work experience after graduation, and a competitive Express Entry or PNP profile.
